WHY DERMAPLANING

Six reasons dermaplaning belongs on your menu.

Dermaplaning skims dead surface skin and fine facial hair with a sterile, single-use blade, leaving skin that feels soft and smooth and looks brighter. One protocol, one kit, taught hands-on in Fullerton with a DBH educator coaching your hands.

A DBH CERTIFICATION · TAUGHT IN PERSON IN FULLERTON, CA

  • 01

    Comfortable in the chair

Clients typically feel no discomfort, with minor redness or sensitivity that may last a couple of hours, and skin left feeling soft and smooth. Facial hair grows back at the same rate and texture as before, not thicker or darker.

  • 02

The right blade for the skin

Blade size and steel matter. You learn which blade suits beginners, which covers larger areas, when stainless or carbon steel fits the skin in front of you, and that every blade is used once.

  • 03

    Technique that protects the skin

Hold the skin taut, keep a light touch, never blade downward or raise the blade mid-stroke, and skip the top of the nose, above the cheekbone, the eyelids, the lips, the hairline, raised lesions and broken skin.

  • 04

Oil blading for dry or sensitive skin

Oil blading glides the blade over a thin layer of Apricot Oil Face Therapy. The oil acts as a buffer, so it can be gentler for dry or sensitive skin, and you learn when to choose it over classic dermaplaning.

  • 05

It pays for itself in three to five treatments

DBH suggests charging $150–250 per treatment. Tuition is $750 with the full professional kit included, so the class is covered within your first handful of bookings.

  • 06

You're not on your own after class

Our in-house estheticians are there for questions after class, you get ongoing education and treatment updates, and the skincare products in your kit can be reordered from DBH.

WHAT'S INSIDE THE KIT

The cleansers, exfoliator, mist, serum, oil, mask and tools in your kit, included with your seat.

BEFORE YOU ENROLL

Questions before you enroll

Who can enroll?

Licensed estheticians, cosmetologists and dermatologists, medical aesthetics professionals (RNs, NPs and PAs), and students currently enrolled in a licensing program. We verify your license or enrollment by email after purchase, before class. What you can offer clients varies by state, so check with your state board, and make sure your insurance covers skin blading before you offer it.

Do I need to bring a model?

Yes. The hands-on portion is the full protocol performed on a model you bring, with your educator coaching. Choose someone with none of the contraindications listed below, and bring a headband or hair tie for them. If you can't find a model, tell us when we confirm your booking and we can help you source one.

What happens after I pay?

You'll get an order confirmation right away, then an email from our education team confirming your class date, the address (1111 S Placentia Ave, Fullerton, CA 92831), parking, what to bring, and your license or enrollment verification.

How do I receive my certification?

Complete the class, then take the online assessment. Within 30 days, submit before-and-after photos of dermaplaning treatments you perform on two clients after class. Once your assessment and photos are reviewed, your Dermaplaning/Oil Blading Certification is issued.

What's the difference between dermaplaning and oil blading?

Dermaplaning uses a sterile, single-use blade on clean skin to skim away dead surface skin and fine facial hair. Oil blading adds a thin layer of oil first, so the blade glides more smoothly, which can be gentler for dry or sensitive skin. Class teaches both.

Does facial hair grow back thicker or darker?

No. Dermaplaning doesn't change the structure of the hair follicle. Hair grows back at the same rate and texture as before. It can feel different because it's cut straight across, but it isn't thicker or darker.

Who isn't dermaplaning for?

Clients using Accutane or Retin-A; with sunburn, a rash, dermatitis, eczema or psoriasis; with pustular acne or papules, frequent cold sores, severe rosacea or telangiectasia, or raised lesions such as moles; with a recent sensitivity to chemical exfoliants; on hormonal therapy that produces thick, dark facial hair or pigmentation; who are pregnant or breastfeeding; or with a history of lupus, scleroderma, chemotherapy or radiation, or diabetes. The list isn't exhaustive, and class covers how to screen for it.

What results can clients expect?

Right after the treatment, skin usually feels soft and smooth and looks brighter, with dead surface skin and fine facial hair skimmed away. Clients typically feel no discomfort; minor redness or sensitivity can last a couple of hours. Results vary from client to client and are cosmetic; dermaplaning isn't a medical treatment and doesn't treat any condition.

How long does a treatment take, and how often can clients rebook?

A treatment takes about 30 to 35 minutes, and clients can rebook about every four weeks. Afterward, clients skip makeup for at least 24 hours, avoid heat, saunas, strenuous exercise and prolonged sun for 24 to 48 hours, wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and hold off on exfoliants for a few days.

Can I combine dermaplaning with peels?

Yes, dermaplaning can be used alongside chemical peels and other treatments. Before a dermaplaning session itself, clients should avoid exfoliating products and treatments, including retinoids and peels, for at least 3 to 5 days.

Is there a payment plan?

Yes. Affirm and Shop Pay Installments are both available at checkout; choose either at payment to see your monthly options. You can also hold a seat with a $100 deposit and pay the balance before class begins; the deposit applies to your tuition. Class packages and group rates are also available; contact our education team for details.

What are the rescheduling, cancellation and refund policies?

Any rescheduling or cancellation request must be made at least 72 business hours before the scheduled class. Requests inside that window carry a $150 charge, whether you reschedule or cancel. We don't offer refunds, returns or exchanges on classes once purchased, whether partially completed or completed, so please review the class description and requirements before purchasing and contact us with any questions. If you have a special situation, reach out to us.
